About the community

Jasper is a town of just under 10,000 people located in the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas, and is the county seat of Jasper County. It was named an Outdoor Life "Top Twenty" city, based in part on its proximity to Lake Sam Rayburn. The community is growing, and has become a center for tourism, as well as for retirement. Several other industries, including forestry, are active in the area.

In keeping with the outdoor nature of the area, St. Paul and Faith Lutheran Church in Woodville have joined over the years in sponsoring an Easter Sunrise service at Martin Dies State Park, on the shores of B.A. Steinhagen Lake.
